Florida Passes Controversial Immigration Law

Heather Clancy over at All Business wrote a good article about the passing of this new law.  What do you think?

Last wee, with far less hooplah than Arizona, legislators in the state of Florida passed a law that seeks to curb illegal immigration.

The new law states that Florida police need to “make a reasonable effort” to determine the immigration status of anyone they arrest and jail. If an illegal immigrant is convicted, they will be referred to the federal government for deportation. According to coverage about the new law in The New York Times, the original legislation would have required businesses to check workers’ immigration status against the E-Verify federal verification database. Yep, I’ll bet that was a very scary proposition for so many, many reasons.
