Traveling Criminals

December 8, 2022

In recent months, law enforcement officials in central Florida have reported a sudden upsurge in “smash-and-grab” incidents at state parks, ballfields, community centers, churches, gyms and day care centers. These crimes appear to be connected to South Florida-based organized crime rings known as “Felony Lane” gangs, officials say.

“South Florida is so densely populated, it’s almost like they have run out of places to commit crimes,” said Susie Murphy, a spokeswoman with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in Orlando.

Murphy continued: “We find that when these people are arrested, they are from South Florida. The majority of them are from Fort Lauderdale and Lauderhill. It seems to be where everybody’s coming from.”
